CEJIS is a non-profit and non-governmental organisation founded in 1978 with the objective of supporting the defence and promotion of the economic-social rights of employees and the basic rights of peoples and collectives subjected to political repression.

On approval of law 1715 of the National Office for Agrarian Reform (better known as the INRA Law), since 1994, the institution has focussed its activities on indigenous peoples. From 1996 the institution has been accompanying indigenous farmers in legal-social and technical aspects of their demands and in the preparation of their proposals. One example to be mentioned is the demand to call for a Constitutional Assembly (2002), and later on accompanying the rural social movements in the discussions within the Constitutional Assembly.

CEJIS works in the departments of Beni, Santa Cruz, Chuquisaca and La Paz and has as its mission: “To contribute to the creation of structural changes towards the consolidation of democracy and justice”.
